What is the Bible about?

What is the dream of the average believer? I cannot categorically speak on the dreams of others, but I can speak for myself. My life goal is to be reunited with Jesus in a plane devoid of sin and the pain it bears. I also want to be reunited with my brethren in a plane where the bondage of sin and corruption does not reside. Now, how do I live in expectation of my dreams? I do so by studying the manual given by the One who put this desire within me.

As a believer and child of God, there is a book that reveals His plans. That Book is the Bible, the Book of books, written to the chosen generation, the children of God. So, what is this Bible about? What is the purpose of the Bible?

REDEMPTION!

The Bible is God’s strategy for the redemption of man. It is God’s strategy to inform the believer of His Heart towards them.

He planned to redeem man even before creation!!!

God purposed to redeem man even before creation. In Ephesians 1:3 – 14, Apostle Paul writes about the work of God on behalf of the believer before the foundation of the world. He began to expand on each role played by the Trinity, starting from the work of God the Father – who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings; then he moves on to the work of God the Son – who has redeemed us by His blood. He rounds up by revealing the work of the Holy Spirit – who is the Guarantee of our inheritance.

God had always purposed to save man! In 1 Timothy 1:9, Apostle Paul tells us that God, “has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began…” He already purposed that you will be saved even before you told your first lie.

But you must be careful what you do with this revelation of redemption, it is easy to stray off and have the ideology of God accepting you even though you live in rebellion against His set standards. The ‘once saved, forever saved’ doctrine is false and one that a lot of believers have fallen into. The Bible is a call to holiness and righteousness in your way of living.

God knew man would need to be redeemed and He set a plan in place. I think the award for the most visionary leader should go to God, alongside a host of other awards like the best mathematician, statistician, physicist and a lot more. He knew it all! And He planned ahead. At creation, He knew, at the fall, He set the ball rolling. When He spoke to Abraham in Genesis 12:1 – 3, He began to prepare man to be saved. He revealed it to the Prophets in the Old Testament, as seen in Malachi 4.

Redemption was effected through our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ in the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It was shared generously by the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts. The Apostles, being helped by God explained this redemption in the epistles and the final redemption will be realized as seen in the book of Revelations!

Before the foundation of the earth was set, His plan for you was to be redeemed to Him, and He wants you to know, that is why you have the gift of the Bible. It is not just a Book of stories or the history of one nation, it is the Word of God to you. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12. His Word written thousands of years ago is still valid to you today, His counsel stands from generation to generation.

As you go through the pages, know this truth. It is God’s plan for you! Yes, you! Take it personally, read it with His help and have your face set as a flint always before eternity.

Shalom!
